**Two conferences. Two continents. One mission: making physical access an integral part of enterprise identity security.**

Last week marked an important milestone for Key2XS. While our team demonstrated European innovation at the [ONE Conference](http://www.one-conference.nl)in The Hague, our colleagues in Austin, Texas, introduced Physical Access Governance to the global identity security community at [SailPoint Navigate 2026](http://www.sailpoint.com/navigate).

![navone2](https://key2xs.com/hs-fs/hubfs/navone2.png?width=688&height=387&name=navone2.png)

Two major international events, taking place almost simultaneously, brought together cybersecurity leaders, identity professionals, critical infrastructure operators, technology partners and policymakers.

For Key2XS, both conferences provided an opportunity to address a fundamental weakness in enterprise security: organisations have spent decades securing digital identities and applications, while the physical keys that open their most critical infrastructure often remain outside their identity governance frameworks.

Our message was consistent on both sides of the Atlantic. Identity governance should not stop at the digital perimeter. It must extend to every physical access decision.

## Austin: Bringing Physical Access into the Identity Control Plane

At SailPoint Navigate 2026, held from 5 to 8 October in Austin, Key2XS participated as a technology sponsor, presenting its approach to extending identity governance beyond traditional IT environments. Navigate brings together the global identity security ecosystem, including enterprise customers, system integrators, technology partners and industry specialists.

As a certified SailPoint [Technology Alliance Partner](https://www.sailpoint.com/partners/technology-alliance-partners) and one of the nine inaugural partners in SailPoint's Unified Platform Access initiative, Key2XS demonstrated how physical access rights can become part of an organisation's established identity security processes.  The Key2XS presence included live demonstrations, discussions with identity professionals and a presentation in Theater South.

On Tuesday, 6 October, Key2XS co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer Vincent Philipsen took the stage with the presentation **"Extending the Identity Control Plane to Critical Infrastructure."**  The presentation addressed a fundamental disconnect in enterprise security.

*When an employee changes position or a contractor completes an assignment, organisations can automatically adjust or revoke digital access through their Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) systems.*

But what happens to the electronic key that opens a transformer station, railway installation, telecommunications facility or water treatment plant? In many organisations, that physical access right is managed through a separate process, frequently involving manual administration, disconnected systems and limited visibility for the security organisation. Key2XS bridges this gap.

Through its certified SailPoint integration, Key2XS enables organisations to extend identity-driven provisioning, approvals, access reviews and revocation processes to electronic locking systems. Our platform integrates technologies from manufacturers including [ASSA ABLOY](http://www.assaabloy.com), [iLOQ](http://www.iloq.com) and [Traka](http://www.traka.com), enabling organisations to manage physical access through the same governance principles already applied to their digital environments.

The result is a more consistent approach to access control, improved operational efficiency and stronger accountability throughout the identity lifecycle.

### Identity decides. Keys follow.

One of the central messages in Austin was that the electronic key should no longer represent an independent source of authority. Instead, physical access permissions should follow centrally defined identity policies.

When an identity receives a new role, the appropriate physical access rights can be provisioned. When a role changes, permissions can be adjusted. When an assignment ends, revocation is initiated automatically, with execution dependent on the capabilities and connectivity of the underlying locking system.

This is particularly relevant for organisations operating large, geographically distributed estates where thousands of employees and external contractors require access to critical infrastructure.

At the Key2XS booth, these principles were translated into practical demonstrations and discussions about integrating existing electronic key systems into enterprise identity governance.

*The objective is not to replace existing locking infrastructure. It is to make that infrastructure governable.*

## The Hague: European Cybersecurity, Sovereignty and Critical Infrastructure Resilience

While our colleagues were representing Key2XS in Texas, another part of the team participated in the ONE Conference in The Hague on 6 and 7 October. The ONE Conference is one of Europe's leading cybersecurity gatherings, connecting representatives from government, industry, academia and the international cybersecurity community.

![IMG\_8744](https://key2xs.com/hs-fs/hubfs/IMG_8744.jpeg?width=5712&height=3213&name=IMG_8744.jpeg)

This year's programme addressed subjects including cyber resilience, emerging threats, international cooperation, digital sovereignty and the growing importance of securing Europe's digital and physical infrastructure.

For Key2XS, the conference provided a particularly relevant setting to demonstrate how European cybersecurity innovation can address the operational challenges faced by critical infrastructure operators.

![1791287948121](https://key2xs.com/hs-fs/hubfs/1791287948121.jpeg?width=1280&height=1706&name=1791287948121.jpeg)

At our exhibition stand, visitors explored how existing electronic locking systems can be connected to enterprise IAM and IGA environments, replacing fragmented key administration with centralised, policy-driven governance. The discussions focused on an increasingly important question.

*How can organisations demonstrate control over physical access to critical infrastructure when their security and compliance obligations continue to expand*

### From cybersecurity compliance to operational control

With the European NIS2 and Critical Entities Resilience (CER) directives reshaping the regulatory environment, critical infrastructure operators face increasing expectations concerning risk management, operational resilience, accountability and incident response.

Although these frameworks do not prescribe a particular electronic locking technology or mandate a specific IAM integration, they reinforce the importance of implementing appropriate organisational and technical security measures.

Physical access governance is an important component of that broader responsibility. For organisations managing electricity distribution networks, railway infrastructure, drinking water facilities, telecommunications networks and other essential services, knowing who can physically access an asset is not simply a facilities management issue. It is a security governance issue.

Key2XS enables organisations to connect physical access decisions to centrally managed identities, authorisation policies and auditable workflows. This provides the foundation for consistent access reviews, automated lifecycle management and improved visibility into who is authorised to access critical assets. It also reduces dependence on manual administrative processes that become increasingly difficult to manage as infrastructure networks and contractor populations expand.

## European Innovation with International Ambitions

The simultaneous presence of Key2XS in The Hague and Austin illustrated another important development. Physical Access Governance is no longer exclusively a local or sector-specific challenge.

Organisations across Europe and North America face similar problems. They operate complex physical infrastructure, depend on multiple technology vendors and increasingly rely on external contractors. At the same time, they are investing heavily in identity security, automation and Zero Trust architectures. Yet physical access frequently remains disconnected from those investments.

Key2XS addresses this challenge through a vendor-independent integration platform designed to connect electronic locking technologies with enterprise identity systems. Rather than introducing another isolated management environment, Key2XS makes existing physical access infrastructure part of an organisation's broader identity security architecture.

Our integrations with platforms such as [SailPoint](http://www.sailpoint.com), [Microsoft](http://www.microsoft.com) Entra ID, [Okta](http://www.okta.com), [One Identity,](http://www.oneidentity.com) [OpenText](http://www.opentext.com) and [Omada Identity](https://omadaidentity.com) allow organisations to extend established identity governance processes to physical access.

On the locking side, integrations with technologies from [ASSA ABLOY](https://www.assaabloy.com/),[iLOQ](https://www.iloq.com) and [Traka](https://www.traka.com) support a multi-vendor approach that avoids unnecessary dependence on individual manufacturers.

This architecture is particularly valuable for large infrastructure operators that have accumulated different locking technologies across regions, facilities and operational divisions. It also creates opportunities for technology partners, system integrators and infrastructure service providers to incorporate Physical Access Governance into their existing offerings.

### European technology, global relevance

The ONE Conference reinforced the importance of European cybersecurity capabilities and technological sovereignty.

![madeineurope](https://key2xs.com/hs-fs/hubfs/madeineurope.jpeg?width=1600&height=1200&name=madeineurope.jpeg)

Key2XS is developed in Europe and offers European hosting options, supporting organisations seeking greater control over their security architecture and technology dependencies. Together with European technology partners, Key2XS contributes to an ecosystem capable of delivering integrated identity and physical access governance.

Our participation in SailPoint Navigate simultaneously demonstrated that these capabilities are relevant well beyond Europe. The underlying problem is universal.

*A cybersecurity strategy cannot be considered complete when access to critical physical infrastructure operates outside the organisation's identity governance model.*

## From Manual Key Management to Continuous Governance

One recurring theme across both conferences was the relationship between security and operational efficiency. For many infrastructure operators, managing electronic keys involves substantial administrative overhead.

Keys must be assigned, permissions configured, contractors onboarded, access rights reviewed and authorisations revoked when assignments end. These activities are frequently distributed across different departments, service providers and technology platforms. Key2XS changes this operational model by introducing two complementary capabilities.

The first is **Physical Access Governance**, connecting access permissions to enterprise identity policies and providing the information needed to support access reviews, compliance monitoring and audit processes.

The second is **automated electronic key management**, reducing manual administration by orchestrating the provisioning, modification and revocation of access rights across supported locking systems.

Together, these capabilities help organisations move from periodic, manually coordinated security administration towards more continuous and consistent control. For large critical infrastructure operators, the potential benefits include lower administrative costs, faster contractor onboarding, improved permission hygiene and stronger evidence of access-related security controls.

Importantly, these improvements can be achieved while retaining existing investments in electronic locking infrastructure.

## The Next Step: Making Physical Access a Standard Part of Identity Security

The conferences in Austin and The Hague highlighted two complementary priorities. In Austin, the focus was on extending enterprise identity security into the physical world. In The Hague, the emphasis was on strengthening cybersecurity, resilience and operational control over Europe's critical infrastructure.

For Key2XS, these are not separate objectives. They represent two perspectives on the same challenge. Digital identity, physical access and security policy must operate as parts of one governance framework.

The technology to achieve this already exists. The challenge now is to accelerate adoption and make Physical Access Governance a standard component of enterprise security architecture.

Following a week of presentations, demonstrations and conversations on both sides of the Atlantic, Key2XS will continue expanding its collaboration with identity technology providers, electronic locking manufacturers, systems integrators and critical infrastructure operators.

Our next international engagement will be **SailPoint Navigate London, from 2 to 4 November 2026**, where Key2XS will participate as a Gold Sponsor. Our UK colleagues will join Vincent & Sjoerd at Navigate 2026 in London.

The mission remains unchanged.

*One Identity Policy. Every Door. Enforced.*

Because the contract may end, the role may change and the identity may be disabled. But unless physical access follows those decisions, the keys may continue to work. And that is precisely the problem Key2XS was built to solve.
